February 2025 EV Market Update: Positive Growth in New Zealand and Worldwide

  • Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) accounted for 7.9% of new light passenger vehicle registrations (up from 7.0% in January).

  • Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) represented 7.2% of new registrations (up from 3.5% in January).

  • Combined, EVs reached 15.1% of all new light passenger vehicle sales.

  • New Zealand now has 121,621 EVs on the road, consisting of 85,191 BEVs and 36,430 PHEVs, which is 2.50% of the total vehicle fleet.
